European Cup 2014: Perfect game for Bolsenbroek

In a game in which it seemed that the Dutch pulled the breaks a bit, starting pitcher Mike Bolsenbroek dominated the Greek lineup through seven innings. In those seven frames Bolsenbroek struck out ten and didn’t allow a single Greek baserunner.
In 2012 Bolsenbroek participated at the WBC qualifiers as a part of the German team.

Mike Bolsenbroek: perfect game

The Dutch needed only three innings to score the total of eleven runs.

The biggest inning was the second when the Dutch scored six runs. Gilmer Lampe led off the second with a walk and stole second without being bothered by a pickoff attempt. Nick Urbanus then grounded out 4-3 to advance Lampe to third. Dashenko Ricardo and Michael Duursma both drew a walk off Greek starter Angelos Argyropoulos before Randolph Oduber singled through the left side of the infield. On this hit Gilmer Lampe and Dashenko Ricardo scored the opening runs and Michael Duursma advanced to second base. Duursma and Oduber advanced a base when Hainley Statia grounded out to first base. The next hitter, designated hitter Gianison Boekhoudt then cleared the right center field fence with a three run shot.
Kalian Sams doubled to left field, followed by a double hit by Yurendell de Caster that drove in Sams for the sixth run of the Orange squad.

The Dutch started the fourth inning with an out. But then Hainley Statia got on base on an error by Greek second baseman Floundas. A walk by Boekhoudt, a homer by De Caster, a double by Lampe and a single by Urbanus, drove in four more runs for the Dutch.

In the fifth inning Hainley Statia hit a solo shot to make it 11-0.

Best hitter for the Dutch was Yurendell de Caster who went 3 for 4 and was a triple shy of the cycle. De Caster, who is a journey man in professional baseball, drove in four runs and scored one himself.

This was only the tenth no-hitter for team Netherlands during a European Cup tournament and the first perfect game since 2003 for the Dutch.

Tomorrow the second serious opponent will be Spain. Just like the Dutch, Spain is without a loss. The Dutch should be warned since the Spanish team beat the Italians in the final of the Italian Baseball Week 5-2.
