After a 3-2 series win vs Mobile and a 2-3 series loss vs Jackson, the Biscuits took on the Missisiippi Braves last night in Pearl MS.
After Jaimie Schultz gave up three runs in the first inning, the Biscuits countered in the top of the third. A walk by Johnny Fields, consecutive singles by Daniel Robertson and Ritchie Schaffer and a double by Patrick Leonard drove in two runs for Montgomery. A bases clearing triple by Tyler Goeddel and a double by Thomas Coyle added two more runs to the score of the Biscuits for a 5-3 lead. The Braves on their turn, countered in the very same inning by scoring two runs to tie the game at five.
The Braves scored one more run in the seventh but as the Biscuits scored two runs in the fifth and two in the sixth inning, that one run wasn’t enough to put the Biscuits’ win in danger. Eventually the final score was 10-6 and the Biscuits collected fourteen hits.
Despite allowing five runs on seven hits, Jaimie Schultz earned his third win of the season. Mississippi’s Bryton Trepagnier earned the loss after 1.2 innings of relief pitching in which he allowed two runs on two hits and gave up four walks.
Best hitter for Montgomery was shortstop Daniel Robertson, who went 4 for 5 with three doubles, a walk, an RBI and a run scored.
Thanks to this win, the Biscuits are one game under .500 again and in third place, two games behind the Tennessee Smokies that lead the Southern League North division. It just caught my eye that the Biscuits are in the North division. Until this season they played in the South division. But since the Huntsville Stars moved to Biloxi at the Gulf Coast a move was needed.
