On the third day of the final round of the second half of the season, the following games were scheduled:
Pronto DSS @ HCAW, Vaessen Pioniers @ Corendon Kinheim and Mampaey the Hawks @ UVV.
Two rather close games and a kind of blow out score.
Pronto DSS @ HCAW 2 – 6
In a close game HCAW opened the score in the first inning. With one out Roy Seltenrijch singled to shortstop and stole second. When Emersson Paula singled to right field, Seltenrijch scored from second base. Paula then stole second and scored on Kevin Nieveld’s single to second base.
In the top of the third Pronto DSS tied the game when Lex Leijenaar and Shane Boeree singled before Ruud Naaktgeboren struck out. After Leijenaar and Boeree advanced on a wild pitch, Mark Smit grounded out 6-3 and Sven Jongejans singled to shortstop, DSS scored two.
But HCAW responded immediately in the bottom of the third. With two outs, Emersson Paula singled to third base and Rossini Frolijk singled to left field on which Paula could advance to third. A throwing error by left fielder Levine Gabriels allowed Paula to score the go-ahead run. Eventually HCAW scored three runs in the eighth to reach the final score of 6-2.
Maickel Rietel earned a rare win. So far this season he has pitched good games but then collapsed or didnt get run support. In 5.2 innings he gave up two runs on three hits. He also struck out five. Jorn van Ingen lasted four innings for the loss. He gave three runs (two earned) on six hits and struck out four. Emersson Paula went 2 for 3 for HCAW with an RBI and two runs scored.
Vaessen Pioniers @ Corendon Kinheim 1 – 5
It took Corendon Kinheim until the fourth inning before the opened the score. With two outs, Dachenko Ricardo singled to shortstop, followed by Jeffrey Arends who hit a double down the left field line that drove in Ricardo for the first run of the game.
One inning later Vaessen Pioniers tied the game when Djewi Appelman scored all the way from first base on a double down the left field line hit by Daniel Fernandes.
In the bottom of the sixth, Kinheim when Ortez singled, Dachenko Ricardo doubled and both scored on a single hit by Jeffrey Arends. In the eighth Kinheim added two more runs to reach the final score.
Nick Veltkamp pitched five innings for the win. He gave up one run and struck out one. Lars Huijer took the loss after six innings of work in which he gave up three earned runs on nine hits and fanned five.
Best hitter for Kinheim was Jeffrey Arends, who went 2 for 3 with a double, three runs batted in and a run score. Daniel Fernandez went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI for Pioniers.
Mampaey the Hawks @ UVV 2 – 9
After a lifeless game from the side of UVV yesterday, the team from Utrecht had to prove that it was a mistake. And they did in a convincing way. A one run second inning (solo homerun by Mike Bazuin) and a four run third were enough to win it. But they kept pushing.
In the bottom of the fifth, Gilmer Lampe scored on Tony Enos’ double. When Jamie Verheyleweghen singled, Enos advanced to third and scored the second run when Verheyleweghen was caught stealing. A one run seventh and a one run eighth inning (Mike Bazuin from third, after he had hit a triple, on a 4-3 ground out hit by Jamie Verheyleweghen), put the final two runs for UVV on the board. But with that the game wasn’t over. Mampaey the Hawks started a rally in the ninth and scored two as Odion Gouverneur drew a lead off walk and was driven in on a triple down the right field line, his by Kevin van Veen. On his turn, Van Veen scored on Stephan Henson’s single.
Tino van Ancum pitched five inings for the win. He dominated the Hawks’ lineup as he only gave up one hit, walked one and struck out two. Evan Simons took the loss after four innings in which he gave up five runs on four hits and two walks.
Best hitter for UVV was Gilmer Lampe, who went 2 for 3 with a double, three runs batted in and two runs scored.
Kevin van Veen, who had a pinch hit appearance, had the most impact for the Hawks as he drove in a run with a triple and scored a run himself.
