My appologies for the delay, but internet was down yesterday, so I couldn’t post.
Yesterday’s game between Pronto DSS and HCAW was rained out on Sunday and on Monday.
It was one of those close games in which runs didn’t come cheap.
HCAW took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Max Clarijs singled, Emersson Paula walked and Gianni Frolijk laid down a sac bunt to advance both runners a base. When Roy Seltenrijch doubled down the right field line, Max Clarijs could score from third but somehow Gianni Frolijk didn’t manage to score from second as he stranded at third.
In the fifth Pronto DSS tied the game. After Tino van Erk flied out (thank you Ryan Miner for explaining) and Seb Visser grounded out, Ryan Miner drew a walk, followed by a single to short stop hit by Jeoffrey Heus and a single by Lex Leijenaar to left field. As left fielder Jelle Blaauw made a fielding error, all runners advanced a base and Ryan Miner scored the game tying run.
The sixth, seventh, eighth and the top of the ninth inning were rather quick ones. In the bottom of the ninth, HCAW loaded the bases but failed to score so the tie breaker was needed.
WIth Ryan Miner placed on first base and Ruud Naaktgeboren at second, Jeoffrey Heus laid down what should have been a sacrifice bunt. But pitcher Steven van Groningen fired the ball towards third base where Ruud Naaktgeboren was tagged out for the first out of the inning. After Lex Leijenaar hit an infield fly for the second out, Mitchell Dautzenberg doubled to right center field and advanced to third on a throwing error by second baseman Gianni Frolijk. The two baserunners could score to give DSS a 3-1 lead.
With Max Clarijs placed on second base and Emersson Paula placed on first for HCAW, Gianni Frolijk failed to lay down a proper sacrifice bunt as he flied out to first base. HCAW managed to load the bases as Roy Seltenrijck singled to left field but the next two batters struck out.
Desite pitching a good game, HCAW’s Maickel Rietel could not clinch the win. That honour was for Max Ploegstra, who pitched 0.2 innings in which he gave up two walks but didn’t give up a hit. According to the stats on the website of the KNBSB Ploegstra earned the win, even though the score was tied as the ninth inning ended. In my opinion Kevin Geestman who pitched in the tenth and earned the save according to the stats, should have gotten the win. Correct me if I’m wrong.
Steven van Groningen took the loss, as he gave up two runs (none earned) on one hit. He struck out one hitter.
Thanks to the sweep, HCAW is tied with Mampaey the Hawks for last place. It may very well be that the series between the both teams may be decisive for their fate.
