A major upset tonight in Utrecht. Next to the game between HCAW and UVV the game between Mampaey the Hawks and Pronto DSS was scheduled.
HCAW @ UVV 9 – 5
Two innings long the game was scoreless, but in the top of the third HCAW caught fire all of a sudden. With Emersson Paula at first with one out, Roy Seltenrijch doubled and advanced to third on a throwing error by shortstop Tony Enos. Paula scored on the error.
Rossini Frolijk followed by drawing a walk and Kevin Nieveld singled down the right field line to drive in Seltenrijch. Jarreau Martina’s single loaded the bases before Rickert Kempen singled to third and drove in Rossini Frolijk for the 3-0.
But UVV would get back into the game in their third at bat. A walk drawn by Dennis RIbbens would eventually lead to UVV’s first run as he advanced to third on a single by Gilmer Lampe, a walk by Dennis de Quint and a single by Omar Williams.
After HCAW scored two runs in the fourth, they had another three run inning in the fifth. With one out and Emersson Paula at first, Peter van Doesburg doubled to left field to put runners on third and second. When Roy Seltenrijch reached first
base on a fielder’s choice at second base, P
aula scored HCAW’s sixth run. When Kevin Nieveld singled to right center field, he advanced to second base on a throw to third base. Roy Seltenrijch advanced to second and to third on the ill handled throw by third baseman Omar Williams. Peter van Doesburg scored on the play and Roy Seltenrijch scored on the error.
Both teams scored a run in the sixth inning to make it 9-2.
A big inning for UVV in the eighth brought them within four runs of HCAW but that was about it UVV was capable of.
Winning pitcher was Kaj Timmermans, who went 6 innings in which he allowed two runs (one earned) on eight hits. He struck out three and walked three as well.
Ian DelaMarre was tagged with the loss as he lasted only three innings in which he gave up five runs on then hits, walked two and fanned three.
Kevin Nieveld was the best hitter for HCAW. He went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBI.
A very important win for HCAW. This victory gives them sole posession of third place in the Runner Up Competition with a two point lead over Mampaey the Hawks.
It seems that UVV has lost it completely. Two losses last week and now one against another team that they should have beaten.
Mampaey the Hawks @ Pronto DSS 2 – 5
Mampaey the Hawks took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Odion Gouverneur singled and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Eventually he was batted in on a triple to right center field by Ruben Berend. But two innings later, Pronto DSS tied the game when Joffrey Heus scored from second on a hit towards shortstop Stephen Henson, who misplayed the ball for a fielding error.
Again two innings later, DSS took a one run lead that lasted until the top of the eighth.
With two outs in the eighth, the Hawks got on base when Amir Daou drew a walk. Two wild pitches by Tim Halderman made Daou advance to third. When Halderman walked Jules Peters, he was pulled in favour of Max Ploegstra. But Ploegstra was hardly in the game or DaouM stole home plate for the game tying run.
But DSS would make one final push in the bottom of the eighth. With Levine Gabriels on second and Tommy van der Sanden on third, Ryan Miner tripled to left center field to drive in Gabriels and Van der Sanden. When Joffrey Heus laid down a sac bunt, Ryan Miner would score the third run of the inning to reach the final score.
Despite pitching only 0.1 innings, Max Ploegstra earned the win. Deaton Enoch pitched a decent game but still took the loss after 7.1 innings in which he gave up five runs (two earned ) on seven hits. He walked three and struck out five.
Best hitter for DSS was Joffrey Heus, going 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored.
