In this year’s International Power Showcase Homrun Derby, Europe will be represented by two Dutchmen and a Frenchman. The overseas part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands will be represented by Curacao.
With the graduates group the following players will participate:
Jowenrick Daantji, who is attending Trinity Christian Academy, will represent Curacao. The 5’10 infielder/outfielder will hit seventh in a 51 player lineup. Daantji hit a respectable .381 during the 2014/2015 season with TCA. He had an on-base-percentage of .490, collected 32 hits and drove in 22 runs. But he did not hit a homerun, so you can wonder why he is participating in the Power Showcase Homerun Derby.
Fred Walter from France will hit as 24th in the lineup. The left infielder is a 2015 MLB All Star and has hit two homeruns with an average of .296. Since 2014, Walter is playing for French Division I club Montpellier Barracudas. During the French championship series he batted 4 for 14 (.286).
Julian Rip is representing the Netherlands on the mainland of Europe. The 17-year old outfielder is also a 2015 MLB All Star. He was drafted by the Rochester Honkers of the Northwoods League in 2014. In 2014, Van Rip appeared in four games in the Dutch Hoofdklasse in which he got one hit out of three at bats. In the 2014 Collegiate Baseball League Europe, Van Rip hit a respectable .412 (14 for 34).
Nick Keur will not participate in the homerun derby but in the World Classic Game, in wich the
aforementioned players will participate as well. Nick Keur will be pitcher for the National League team. Keur’s individual awards/honors are: Dutch U18 team (seven years), attended the Rabbits Baseball academy in Haarlem for three years, attended several MLB camps.
In this year’s Dutch playoffs, Keur made one appearance for Vaessen Pioniers from Hoofddorp in which he kept Corendon Kinheim to five hits. He gave up three walks and struck out five. He limited the opponent to a batting average of .217.
