Yard Goats to start season on the road

Hartford Yard GoatsThe Hartford Yard Goats will start their season on the road. Recently you could read here that the new stadium, Dunkin’ Donuts Park, will not be ready in time. It looks like that the delay will be about a month.

Sounds familiar doesn’t it?  Last season the stadium of the Biloxi Shuckers wasn’t ready in time as well, resulting in a 25 game road trip.

A few days ago, the owner of the Yard Goats stated that he was very disappointed and described it as  an “awful, depressing, disconcerting” situation. It is clear that the stadium won’t be ready with the start of the 2016 Eastern League season, but it is not clear when the stadium will open its doors. It is also clear that the construction cost is at least $10.3 million over budget, but we don’t know exactly who will pay for it: the developer says the city didn’t handle the situation well, but the city says the ballpark has a fixed budget cost of $56 million and that the developer is responsible for all overages. Because the city of Hartford and the construction company cannot reach an agreement on how to solve the exceeding budget and the construction problems, the Yard Goats are the victim here. DD Park.PNG

Dunkin’ Donuts Park is part of a bigger redevelopment project called Downtown North (DoNo). 50,000-square-foot (4,600 m2) supermarket, the relocated Thomas Hooker Brewing Company, housing, retail, and restaurants.

The Yard Goats will play the following road schedule until mid-May:

April 7-April 10: Hartford Yard Goats @ Richmond Flying Squirrels
The clubs will p:ay a doubleheader on April 9 and Sunday, April 10 will become an off day for both clubs.

April 11-April 13: Hartford Yard Goats @. New Hampshire Fisher Cats

April 22-April 24: Hartford Yard Goats @ Portland Sea Dogs
The clubs will play a doubleheader on April 23 and Thursday, April 21 will become an off day for both clubs.

April 25-April 27: Hartford Yard Goats @ Harrisburg Senators
The off day originally scheduled for Thursday April 28 will be moved to Monday, April 25.

May 6-May 8: Hartford Yard Goats @ New Hampshire Fisher Cats

As long as the city of Hartford and the construction company do not reach an agreement on how to close the funding gap, it remains unclear when the Yard Goats will play their first home game.
