Albies appointed to Rome again

Despite his great performance during MLB Spring Training camp, the Braves have sent Ozhaino Albies to their A Full Season affiliate once agian.

Albies spent the entire season with the Rome Braves where he played 98 games and collected 122hits at bats in 394 at bats (.310), 21 doubles and 8 triples. Ozhaino committed 17 errors in 93 games at shortstop (.959 fielding percentage).

You can only guess what’s behind this move. Dansby Swanson has been sent to the GCL Braves, probably as a preparation for the upcoming Northwest League season that wills start in June, so it is not that Swanson has been sent to a higher level than Albies.

Most baseball fans from the Dutch Kingdom expected Albies to start at least at A Advanced affiliation, the Carolina MudCats. This move proves that the Braves are nt rushing Albies through their minor league system.

After Albies received the invitation to the Braves MLB Spring Training  camp, we all knew that he would not make the roster, even though it could have happened already thanks to the numbers he put up during Spring Training. In sixteen games and thirty-five at bats, Ozhaino collected thirteen basehits (a batting average of .371), of which a double and a homerun. Ozhaino drove in five runs, walked three times, stole two bases out of three attempts.

He played a total of nineteen games with the MLB squad, ten as a shortstop and nine at second base. At both positions he committed one error, resulting in a fielding percentage of .967 and .909 respectively.

Nevertheless I expect Ozhaino to be promoted to the MudCats pretty soon.
