With nine top prospects, 2016 may be a nice year for Biscuits

The Montgomery Biscuits announced their Opening Day roster. Nine of the Rays top 30 prospects, this team is stuffed with talent this season. Where the team stranded in the first round of the play offs last year, this year’s team may get a step further in the 2016 www.biscuitsbaseball.comcampaign.

The highest ranked prospect on the roster is 20-year old shortstop Willy Adames.
Despite being the 3rd best prospect in the Rays’ organization, Adames did not hit very well at A-Advanced last year. In 106 games with the Charlotte StoneCrabs, Adames hit just .258.

Jake Bauers, also 20 years old, will patrol the outfield for the Biscuits. Bauers is the nr. 5 prospect of the Rays. Last year he split time between the Charlotte Stone Crabs and the AA Montgomery Biscuits. With the Biscuits he hit .276 and debuted in the Southern League with a solo homerun.

Next to Bauers, nr. 25 prospect Jake Hager (shortstop) returns to the Biscuits, where he spent all 2015. First baseman Casey Gillaspie is new in Montgomery. He has skipped A Advanced. He played with the HotRods last year, where he hit .278. Another newbie in Montgomery is Kean Wong, who is ranked nr. 28 and who plays second base. Wong played with the StoneCrabs, where he hit .274.

RHP Taylor Guerrieri returns to Montgomery after he finished the 2015 season in Alabama’s capital. Ranked sixth in the Rays’ top 30 list, the reliever posted a 1.50 ERA.

Chi-Wei Hu has more experience under his belt than the AA where he will start this year. The RHP from Chinese Taipei played for the AAA Rochester RedWings (Minnesota Twins) before the Rays acquired him in a trade. Nevertheless he spent most time at Port Charlotte where he posted an 0-3 record and a 7.36 ERA in 5 appearances (4 starts).

Nr. 9 prospect, Jacob Faria will also return to Montgomery. In 13 starts with the butter and blue, he posted a 7-3 record with an ERA of 2.51, keeping his opponents to a .194 average.

Ryne Stanek also had a stint with Montgomery last year, though not as impressive as Faria. Stanek appeared in 16 games (8 starts) in which he recorded four wins and three losses and a 4.09 ERA
