Dodgers extend PDC with Dodgers…. Sounds strange, doesn’t it? But it is true. The Los Angeles Dodgers have extended the Player Development Contract with their AAA affiliate, the Oklahoma City Dodgers.
After the Los Angeles Dodgers left Albuquerque after the 2014 season, the team moved its AAA farm team to Oklahoma City. Instead of keeping the name Oklahoma City RedHawks, the name was changed into Dodgers after the Los Angeles namesake bought the club.
Apparently the parent club is very happy with the stay of their AAA affiliate in OKC as it extended the PDC with two more years through the 2018 season.
LA Dodgers president and CEO Stan Kasten stated: “Oklahoma City has been a great home to our players and we’re excited to extend our partnership with Mandalay Baseball and the OKC Dodgers’ organization. It’s been a fantastic partnership, and we’re grateful for the community support we’ve received in our two seasons in Oklahoma City.”
As part of the Dodgers organization, the OKC Dodgers made it to the 2015 Pacific Coast League play offs in which they were swept in three games in the first round by the Round Rock Express.
Another Dodger affiliate, one level lower that the OKC Dodgers, also extended the cooperation with the LA based team. The Tulsa Drillers
and the Dodgers extended the PDC with two more years, through the 2018 season.
“The Drillers are pleased to be able to continue our affiliation with the Los Angeles Dodgers,” said Drillers Co-Chairman Dale Hubbard. “The Dodgers are one of the most famous brands in the game of baseball, and we value having Tulsa partner with such an iconic team. The Dodgers and Player Development Director Gabe Kapler have shown a commitment to build a strong minor league system, and we look forward to a successful partnership that will bring an exciting and successful team to the baseball fans of Tulsa.”
Gabe Kapler, Dodger Director of Player Development stated the following: “We are tremendously excited about extending our PDC agreement with the Drillers’ organization. We’ve nurtured and developed our relationship over the past two seasons, and we are excited to see it continue to blossom. We are especially grateful for the leaders we’ve gotten to work with in Tulsa, as they have been an integral part of our development of the young men in the Dodger organization.”
