After being beaten 3-0 by Asia Pacific (East Seoul, South Korea) in their first game, the Pariba Little League team from Curacao faced Japan in the losers bracket. The Japanese had fallen to Canada 10-4.
In a very close game, Pariba seized their last straw to extend their stay in Williamsport PA.
Japan took a 1-0 lead on a homerun to right center field hit by So Hirao in the fourth inning. But Pariba would tie the game on a towering homerun to left field by Donovan Antonia in the very same inning.
The difference in this game appeared to be a bases loaded walk, given up by Japan’s Sosuke Igawa to Nair Jamanika and scoring Egory Manuela.
Ambidextrous shortstop Jurrangelo Cijntje made a nice running catch as a Japanese player hit a bloop that threatened to fall in between the infield and left field. Another Curacao play that was worth mentioning was a game saving catch in the sixth by the left fielder who caught the ball in an ultimate attempt.
It was the first time in 54 years that Japan is ousted in the international group without making it to the next round by suffering back-to-back losses.
Pariba will face the loser of the game between Australia and Latin America. If Pariba will win this game, they will continue. If they lose they will go home according to the double elimination system.
