The Salem-Keizer Volcanoes are preparing a dark promotion, which will take place a year from now.
The Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, A Short Season team of the San Francisco Giants in the Northwest League, will go dark on August 21 2017. On that day the first coast-to-coast solar eclipse will occur in the United States.
Salem-Keizer will be on the path of the eclips that will run from Oregon to South Carolina. Next to a lot of activities during the weekend series, the team will play a morning game that will be interupted due to an eclipse delay, the first of its kind in baseball history.
Those who will attend this game will receive commemorative eclipse safety glasses which can be worn during the eclipse.
The Volcanoes are planning a big bash, with a wide variety of local beer, wine, cider and spirits. There will also be local food vendors and an EclipseFest Kidzone available throughout the weekend.
The only thing that is missing is that the team will call itself the Salem-Keizer Eclipse for that particular day, just to make the promotion complete.
Don’t be surprised if more baseball clubs on the path of the eclipse, will have similar promotions.
