It may not have come as a surprise that Great Britain beat Pakistan in the game of the losers bracket. But that it would be in seven innings and with a fourteen run margin, may. The British slugged their way to a 14-0 victory that eliminated Pakistan from the tournament. On Saturday, Great Britain will now face Brazil, that fell 1-0 to Israel, for a place in the Sunday’s Qualifier final at Brooklyn’s MCU Park.
Great Britain 14 – 0 Pakistan
Great Britain starter Greg Hendrix got plenty of run support as the British collected thirteen hits. Hendrix allowed just one hit in four innings and kept the Pakistani scoreless.
The British started slowly with a one run second, a two run third and a one run fourth. But in the fifth the British offense exploded. With runners in scoring position and one out, Albert Cartwright tripled to right field to drive in two runs. The triple could have been scored as an error by right fielder Adnan Butt too.
Three singles, a walk and a fielding error by second baseman Faqir Hussein led to four more runs in the fifth inning.
Greg Hendrix did not pitch enough innings for the win. That went to Paul Kirkpatrick, who pitched one inning in relief in which he gave up one hit.
Mohammad Zohaib took the loss after 3.2 innings with four run on five hits, three walks and as many strikeouts.
Best hitter for Great Britain was Albert Cartwright, who went 2 for 3 with a triple, a walk, two RBI and three runs scored.
