It’s official: Ronald Jaarsma appointed manager of Curacao Neptunus

In the past weeks there was a lot of turmoil about the talks between Curacao Neptunus and the third base coach of L&D Amsterdam Pirates, Ronald Jaarsma. Pirates was not amused that Curacao Neptunus had approached Jaarsma short before the Holland Series where the two teams would meet. After the news that Neptunus announced that Evert-Jan ‘t Hoen’s contract would not be extended after the Holland Series, one could only guess that Jaarsma would become the new manager of the team.

Jaarsma as third base coach with L&D Amsterdam Pirates

Today Curacao Neptunus announced through a press release that they have appointed Ronald Jaarsma as their head coach/manager.

Both parties agreed on a one year term and at the request of Jaarsma both assistent coaches Jan Collins and Melfried Comencencia will stay with the club.

Elton Koeiman (pitcher with De Glaskoning Twins in 2016), will be the new pitching coach of Curacao Neptunus. Koeiman pitched one of two no-hitters in the 2016 season. In a rain shortened game of seven innings, he kept DSS from Haarlem in check.

Ronald Jaarsma was active as a player in the Dutch Hoofdklasse from 1996 through 2009. From 2009 through 2011 he was assistent coach for HCAW. In 2011 he replaced Bill Froberg as a manager of the team until the end of the 2011 season. Ronald  moved to L&D Amsterdam in 2013 to become third base coach of the team until he was released (honorable according to Pirates) due to his talks with Curacao Neptunus.

His main achievement as a coach was winning the European Cup with L&D Amsterdam Pirates earlier this year.
