Apparently team Europe likes to play teams from Taiwan. A few days ago, the team clinched the first win vs the CPBL team and today it beat Chinese Taipei. For a long time the game was tied. In every inning that the opponent scored the Europeans scored as many runs. But an offensive outburst in the seventh inning, made the Europeans step of the diamond as victors: 9-5.
Chinese Taipei took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning. With the ace of the Rouen Huskies, Owen Ozainich, on the mound, Chinese Taipei would score two more runs in the fourth inning.
But team Europe scored as many runs in each inning. In the bottom of the second, Dudley Leonora hit a one out single to left field. A wild pitch allowed him to advance to third. Kevin Weijgertse then drew a walk to put runners on the corners. When Weijgertse stole second base, Leonora stole home on the throw towards second. Vincent Ahrens drove in Weijgertse for the game tying run.
After Chinese Taipei had taken the lead again in the fourth inning, Europe tied the game again. With the bases loaded, Vincent Ahrens walked in the third run for Europe. Federico Giordani drove in the fourth run with a ground out towards first base.
Nicolo Clemente replaced Ozanich in the fifth and lasted three frames, allowing no runs, two hits, one walk and striking out three.
But in the seventh inning, Europe started a rally that would drive in five runs. A bases loaded single by Dudley Leonora, drove in the go-ahead run for Europe, followed by a double by Kevin Weijgertse that drove in two runs and put runners in scoring position. Back-to-back sac flies by Ahrens and Giordani drove in two more runs to give Europe an convincing lead over Chinese Taipei.
Chinese Taipei scored one more run in the top of the eighth inning but that was all they could do as the European relievers kept the team limited to only three hits.
Winning pitchers was Nicolo Clemente.
