In an exciting game that was tied for the biggest part, Europe gave away a one run lead in the final at bat of Chinese Taipei. A solo homerun by pinch hitter Du Li Xuan brought the Taiwanese next to the Europeans.
Europe took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and added two more in the fourth inning. But Chinese Taipei got on the board with one run in the third inning and tied the game with a three run fourth inning.
For four innings the game remained tied at four before Europe scored the go-ahead run. Kevin Weijgertse got on base when he hit a ball to right field and the right fielder committed an error. Mattia Mercuri got a free pass on a HBP. Federico Giordani laid down a successful sac bunt to advance both Weijgertse and Mercuri to the next base. Eventually Kevin Weijgertse scored the go-ahead run on a passed ball.
But as written in the prologue, Chinese Taipei manage to salvage this game by scoring on a solo homerun.
The two runs in the fourth inning were scored when Dudley Leonora hit up the middle with runners in scoring position on which Federico Celli scored Europe’s third run. Kevin Weijgertse laid down a sac bunt to drive in the fourth run for Europe.
Best hitter for Europe was Jesus Ustariz, who went 2 for 2 with two RBI, two runs scored and two walks. He hit a two run homerun in the first inning to give Europe their first lead.
