After yesterday’s 15-9 defeat against NPB West, team Europe did not stand a chance vs the East team of the NPB. The Japanese pitcher Ryosuke Miyaguni allowed only one run on four hits in seven innings. The farm hand of the Yomiuri Giants issued two walks and struck out four.

In yesterday’s game, team Europe took a bold 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning but eventually the Japanese had two big rallies that handed them the 15-9 lead. Europe still managed to score four runs in the sixth inning and two more in the seventh.
Best hitter for Europe in that game was catcher Kyle Pollock, who went 3 for 5 with four RBI thanks to a three run homerun in the first inning.

But in today’s game, Europe did not stand a chance as the aforementioned Ryosuke Miyaguni was practically unhittable. His European counterpart, Daniel Alvarez, did not fare that well. In 3.1 innings he gave up five earned runs on six hits and two walks. He also struck out three. Alvarez’ successor, Artur Strzalka from Poland also lasted 3.1 innings. He also allowed five runs but only one was earned. Strzalka gave up four hits, walked four and struck out three.

For the biggest part of the game Europe did not manage to score. But in the seventh with the bases loaded, Mattia Mercuri hit a high bouncer towards third base that drive in the first run for Europe.
After Ryosuke Miyaguni was pulled, the Europeans got a bit of a grip on the Japanese pitching. In the bottom of the eighth, Jesus Ustariz doubled home Dudley Leonora. After Kyle Pollock drew a walk, Leo Rodriguez singled to left field to drive in Ustariz for Europe’s third run. With two outs and the bases loaded, Mattia Mercuri tried to surprise the opponent by laying down a bunt, but the ball was fielded properly and Mercuri was thrown out at first.

Andrew Woeck replaced Artur Strzalka in the seventh inning with two outs. In the ninth inning Woeck gave up a lead off homerun to Yaoita Takumarua. But despite getting into trouble by loading the bases, Woeck got out of the inning without further damage.
Woeck lasted 2.1 innings in which he gave up one two runs on four hits, walked one and fanned two.

Europe’s best hitter was Czech Martin Muzik, who went 2 for 1 with one walk.
