Asia Winter Baseball League 2016: Sensational win for Europe with double digits

That baseball is an unpredictable game was proven by team Europe and the KBO today.
The KBO had won 9 games out of 13, Europe only won 2 out of 13. But the unthinkable happened in the first two innings. Europe scored six runs in the first inning and four in the second to take a 10-1 lead. Three of the ten runs were unearned. Eventually Europe would beat the KBO 13-3.

In the first inning ten European batters got at bat resulting in six runs. With the bases
loaded, Jesus Ustariz singled to left field to drive in two runs. But the Korean pitcher gave up a walk to load the bases again. Singles by Leo Rodriguez, Kevin Weijgertse and Mattia Mercuri drove in four more runs to give Europe a 6-1 lead.

In the mean time, Romanian starting pitcher Eduard Pirvu had a superb outing. Pirvu gave up one run in the first inning after he loaded the bases, but he got out of the inning without further damage and then cruised through the next four frames.

A bases loaded triple by Leo Rodriguez drove in three runs but an errant throw by the Korean shortstop left the playing field so Rodriguez could advance to homeplate to score the fourth run of that inning.

In the third Europe added two more runs to their total on a two run shot to left field by Dudley Leonora.

In the fifth inning Kyle Pollock drove in one more run with a double to left field that drove Dudley Leonora who scored all the way from first base.

But in the top of the sixth inning, the KBO showed some life when pinch hitter Yoon Dae Young hit a solo homerun. This seemed to be the herald of more problems for Eduard Pirvu as he allowed a runner on the bases who advanced to third on a wild pitch, but once again Pirvu got out of trouble and kept the Koreans limited to one run in that particular inning.

After seven frames, Eduard Pirvu was pulled in favor of Misja Harcksen. Harcksen gave up a walk but retired the rest of the batters to keep the KBO at two runs. Eventually the KBO scored one more run in the ninth, but that was all that Misja Harcksen allowed to the Koreans.

Eduard Pirvu lasted seven frames in which he gave up two runs on seven hits, walked two and struck out five for the win.
Misja Harcksen lasted two innings and gave up a run on two hits and a walk and struck out two.

Five European hitters went 2 for 4 but the most impact had Leo Rodriguez, who went 2 for 5 with four RBI and a run scored.

Other hitting results:

Urving Kemp: 2 for 4, 2 runs, 1 BB, 1 SO
Dudley Leonora: 2 for 4, 3 runs, 2 RBI, 1 BB
Federico Celli: 2 for 4, 2 runs, 1 BB
Jesus Ustariz: 1 for 5, 2 runs, 2 RBI,
Kyle Pollock: 2 for 4, 2 runs, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Martin Muzik: 1 for 5, 4 SO
Kevin Weijgertse:  2 for 4, 1 run, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Mattia Mercuri: 1 for 4, 1 RBI, 1 SO, 1 SB

In the remaining two games, Europe will face the CPBL twice. Europe has played good games against this team, so it will not be impossible to clinch at least one victory against the Taiwanese.
