A few minutes ago, the KNBSB (Royal Dutch Baseball and Softball Federation) released a statement in which was announced that two more MLB players will be added to the Dutch roster for the upcoming World Baseball Classic.
Next to Andrelton Simmons, Xander Bogaerts, Jonathan Schoop and Rick van den Hurk, Jurickson Profar and Didi Gregorius have confirmed their participation.
The infield of team Kingdom of the Netherlands will probably play Xander Bogaerts at third base, Andrelton Simmons at shortstop, Didi Gregorius at second base and Jurcikson Profar at first base.
It will be the second time for Profar to participate in the World Baseball Classic. In 2013 he was added to the roster for the semi-final game vs the Dominican Republic. Profar saw action two months ago in the series of friendly matches against team Samurai Japan. Last season, Profar showed that he is a real utility man, who can play at five different positions.
Even though this will be the first World Baseball Classic for Didi Gregorius, it will be the second time that he will join team Kingdom of the Netherlands. In 2011, he was the starting shortstop for the team that won the World Championship in Panama.
Last season, Gregorius was one of the better players for the New York Yankees. After struggling vs lefties in the previous seasons, he improved tremendously against southpaws last year.
Team Kingdom of the Netherlands will field one of the most impressive infields of the WBC for sure.
