Czech national team player, Jan Tomek will join Tridents, the “minor league” team of Curacao Neptunus from Rotterdam. After a year with the Buchbinder Legionaere from the German Bundesliga, he will try his luck in the Netherlands.
Last season, Tomek appeared in 16 games for the Legionaere from Regensburg, in which he posted an ERA of 2.22. During the European Champions Cup, Tomek pitched a helluva game vs Robin Schel of L&D Amsterdam Pirates, the team that would win the tournament. In the first six innings, he gave up only one hit and walked three. In the seventh, an error and another walk heralded the sole run of the game, scored by the Dutch on a wild pitch by reliever David Brandl.
Before heading to Regensburg, he pitched for the Arrows from Ostrava in the Czech Extra League. He went 10-1 with an ERA of 2.45 in 2015. Before he moved to Arrows Ostrava, Tomek played for Draci (Dragons) Brno, for the 2011 and 2012 season.
During the 2016-2017 offseason, Tomek went to Australia to pitch for the Pine Hills Lightning, Queensland State League.
Now signing with the Tridents from Rotterdam, we will see how he will cope with the level of baseball in the Netherlands. Even though Curacao Neptunus has a big number of pitchers, there even may be a chance that Tomek will join the team on the trip to Regensburg, to participate in the 2017 European Champions Cup.
