After a long period of no news about the older brother of Jonathan Schoop, Sharlon was in the center of the attention in the past few days. First Sharlon was added to the roster of the Norfolk Tides (AAA affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles in the International League). After one game with the Tides, on May 7, Sharlon was sent down to Bowie (AA, Eastern League).
After spring training, it was expected by many that Sharlon would be added to the roster of the Norfolk Tides. But there was no news at all. It wasn’t clear if the infielder from Curaçao was on the disabled list or still practicing during extended spring training.
Anyhow, last Sunday Sharlon was placed on the roster of the Norfolk Tides and played with the team vs the Durham Bulls. Sharlon started the game at third base, had two at-bats in which he struck out once and grounded out 6-4. He got on base when he was hit by a pitch.
For now, this was the last appearance with the Tides as the Orioles moved him down to the Bowie BaySox one day later. So far, he hasn’t played a game with the AA team.
Last year Sharlon opted for free agency but eventually signed another one-year deal with the Orioles organization in January.
