The result of a game between DSS and Pickles UVV on May 13, was nullified because UVV used a non-eligible player. UVV won that game but the result was reversed after DSS filed a protest. The KNBSB punished UVV by deducting two points in the standings and by nullifying the game, so the game had to be played again.
The non-eligible player was the backup catcher of team Israel, Tal Erel. Due to an administrative error, the player wasn’t allowed to play, despite the fact that UVV fielded him in the final innings.
DSS 9 – 5 Pickles UVV
Well, last night the nullified game was played again.
The game started promising for Pickles UVV. After DSS took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning, UVV scored thrice. With two outs, Mike Bazuin hit a solo home run to left field. Then Tijmen Takke singled, followed by a walk drawn by Julian Goins. Berend Ruben was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Rick Kuipers followed with a single through the left side to drive in Takke and Goins, to give UVV the 3-1 lead.
After DSS scored their second run in the fifth inning, UVV added two more in the sixth.
What appeared a safe lead, crumbled in the next inning when DSS scored twice.
With runners in scoring position, Koen Halderman hit a sac fly to center field, to drive in Mitchel Dautzenberg. Omar Williams then singled home Devano Pieter to bring DSS within one run of UVV.
In a disastrous ninth inning, UVV gave the lead away as DSS scored five runs. With runners on first and second, Koen Halderman singled through the left side to drive in the tying run. On a wild pitch by Jonah van Bemmelen, DSS got runners in scoring position. Omar Williams grounded to first base and reached base safely as Odeon Gouverneur was tagged out at home after a 3-5-2 play. Back-to-back walks given up to Tino van Erk and Djewi Appelman respectively loaded the bases and drove in a run. Back-to-back singles by Levine Gabriels and Sven van de Sanden drove in two more runs to reach the final score.
Reggie Bomberg earned the win by pitching three innings in which he gave up two runs on two hits and walk.
Jonah van Bemmelen gave up five runs on three hits and four walks for the loss.
Two players shared the honor of being the best hitter for DSS as Levine Gabriels and Sven van de Sanden both went 2 for 5 with two runs batted in.
Thanks to this win, DSS has inched closer to Hoofddorp Pioniers, who is in fourth place and leading DSS in the standings by four points. With a win, UVV could have widened the gap with De Glaskoning Twins to three points. Now their lead remains one point. Coming weekend both teams will face each other for the second time this season in a three-game series.
