Due to the fact that L&D Amsterdam Pirates played the Sunday game on Friday because of obligations in the upcoming European Champions Cup in Regensburg next week, only two games were played today. Pickles UVV needed only three innings to beat De Glaskoning Twins,
Pickles UVV 6 – 2 De Glaskoning Twins
Pickles UVV only needed the first three innings to clinch their second consecutive victory. De Glaskoning Twins on the other side, was kept in check rather well by pitcher Gillian van Lith.
Twins’ Japanese pitcher, Daisuke Yamashita, had some control issues in the first inning as he issued a leadoff walk and hit Julian Rip with a pitch to put runners on first and second. UVV almost scored on Randy Daal’s hit to center field, but Nick Peels threw out Rick Kuipers at home plate with a precise throw. But a sac fly by Sergino Martis, Julian Rip could eventually score from third base. After scoring two runs in the second, UVV ran away even further as they scored one more run in the third. But in the meantime, Twins had scored in the bottom of the second when Gino Jonis scored from third on a wild pitch. Earlier in that inning, Twins almost scored a run but Melvin Perdue was thrown out at home plate after Chris Gé hit the ball straight towards third base.
Twins scored another run in the fourth and UVV scored two runs, one in the fifth and one in the sixth inning.
Kevin van Veen, who came into the game in relief in the fifth inning, earned the win as he kept Twins from scoring as he allowed three hits, walked two and fanned four. Daisuke Yamashita took the loss as he lasted only 2.2 innings in which he gave up four runs on two hits and six walks and struck out two.
Best hitter for Pickles UVV was Sergino Martis, who went 2 for 4 with a RBI and a run scored.
Hoofddorp Pioniers 4 – 6 HCAW
After HCAW took an early 1-0 lead, Hoofddorp Pioniers scored twice in the fifth inning. With the bases loaded, Mervin Gario singled home Sander Paap and Gianni Frolijk to give Pioniers the 2-1 lead. But their lead would not last long.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Roelie Henrique drove in the game-tying run with a single down the left field line. With two outs, Vince Rooi doubled down the left field line to drive in Roelie Henrique and Boyd Tuhumury. Kevin Dirksen followed with a single down the left field line on which Vince Rooi could score the fifth run for HCAW.
In the seventh, HCAW scored an insurance run. Pioniers rallied in the ninth to score two runs. Perhaps rallied isn’t the right word as Pioniers collected only two hits but scored on a bases loaded walk and a bases loaded HBP. The “rally” was killed when Quentin de Cuba grounded out to first base for the final out of the game.
Ian DeleMarre pitched enough innings for the win. In five frames he gave up two runs (one earned) on six hits and two walks and struck out two. Nick Keur took the loss. In 6.2 innings, he gave up six runs (five earned) on ten hits and three walks. He struck out two.
Best hitter for HCAW was Kevin Dirksen, who went 2 for 3 with a double, two runs batted in and a run scored.
