On the second day of round two, Curaçao Neptunus hosted De Glaskoning Twins, DSS hosted HCAW and Hoofddorp Pioniers headed to Utrecht to face Pickles UVV in a game with a surprising result.
De Glaskoning Twins 4 – 9 Curaçao Neptunus
Curaçao Neptunus took a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning when Christian Diaz drove in two runs on a double to center field. After he stole third base, he crossed home plate on a single to right field hit by Dwayne Kemp.
One inning later De Glaskoning Twins got back in the game. Melvin Perdue led off with a single to right center field. On a failed pick off, he advanced to second base and scored on Chris Gé’s double to left center field. When Gino Yonis grounded into a 3-4 out, Gé advanced to third base and scored on Mick Molenaar’s single. In the bottom of the second inning, Neptunus extended its lead with a run when Jochem Koedijk scored on Benjamin Dille’s 6-3 groundout. In the next seven innings, Neptunus would score five more runs, three in the fourth and two in the eighth.
Twins scored a run in the eighth and one in the ninth to make the final score a bit more bearable.
Despite the fact that Neptunus committed three errors, Twins did not manage to take advantage.
Diegomar Markwell lasted seven innings in which he gave up two runs on seven hits and a walk and struck out two for the win. Reynaldo Sarmiento took the loss as he lasted only 3.2 innings in which he gave up seven runs (four earned) on ten hits and two walks.
Best hitter for Curaçao Neptunus was Stijn van der Meer as he went 4 for 5 with a triple, a RBI and three runs scored.
HCAW 7 – 6 DSS
A commanding 7-2 lead almost wasn’t enough for HCAW as DSS rallied late in the game for a comeback. Eventually, the rally fell one run short to tie the game.
After a quick 1-0 lead for HCAW, DSS tied the game three innings later.
But in the next inning, HCAW scored two runs. With the bases loaded, Boyd Tuhumury hit a sac fly on wich Seb Visser could score the second run for HCAW. Dylan Koster would score the third run on Vince Rooi’s single to left field.
DSS cut HCAW’s lead in half as it scored a run in the bottom of the fifth.
HCAW would score three runs in the sixth and one in the seventh. In the eighth inning, DSS rallied for three runs. Back-to-back walks by Thomas Bos and Odion Gouverneur were followed by a single hit by Kevin Nieveld. Then Koen Halderman drew a bases loaded walk. Tino van Erk singled down the right field line to drive in Odion Gouverneur from third and to advance the other runners a base. A balk drove in the third run in that inning. With Sedley Karel on the mound for HCAW, DSS loaded the bases with three walks. Karel was replaced by Giovanni Tensen. Tensen started with walking Koen Halderman but then got out of the inning when Omar Williams lined into a 4-3 double play that ended the game.
Kaj Timmermans lasted seven innings for the win as he gave up two runs (one earned) on four hits. Lars Vogelaar took the loss after four innings in which he gave up three runs on four hits and four walks and struck out two.
The best hitter for HCAW was Rowan van Hoek, who went 3 for 4 with two doubles, two RBI and a run scored.
Hoofddorp Pioniers 4 – 6 Pickles UVV
A surprising win for Pickles UVV. An early 3-0 lead in the first inning and a run scored in each of the next two innings were enough for the win as Pioniers only scored four runs, two in the third and two in the eighth.
With two outs in the first inning, Chris Pfau could not get out of the inning. Pfau gave up three walks, two singles and a double on which UVV could score three runs.
After UVV had taken a 4-0 lead, Hoofddorp Pioniers got on the board in the top of the third inning. A single by Sander Paap, a triple by Joey Eeman and a sac fly by Mervin Gario drove two for the team from Hoofddorp.
With runners in scoring position in the eighth inning, Pioniers scored two on Glenn Backer’s single to left center field. And even though Pioniers had runners in scoring position in the ninth inning, the team did not score as Shurman Marlin grounded in a game-ending 6-3 double play.
Jurjen van Zijl pitched 8.1 strong innings in which he gave up four runs on eleven hits and struck out four. Chris Pfau took the loss after 5.1 innings in which he gave up five runs (four earned) on eight hits and four walks and fanned four.
The best hitter for Pickles UVV was Tijmen Takke, who went 2 for 4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored.
