With the U12 European Championship barely over, the next one is up and running already. In Wiener Neustad (Vienna New town) in Austria, the Dutch took on the host country. The story of the game was one about the Austrian pitching lacking control as they gave up eight walks, threw one wild pitch and hit three with a pitch.
This eventually led to a 16-1 victory for the Netherlands.
Austria opened the score in the second inning when Jan Hoffmann reached first base on a fielding error and stole second. Egohan McGarry then singled to center field to advance Hoffmann to third. Hoffmann scored when Alex Seidenberger grounded into a 5-4 force out.
The inning before the Dutch had a good opportunity to take the lead. But with two outs and the bases loaded, Ayran Araya Lemaire hit into a force out at third base to end the inning.
But in the bottom of the second inning, the Dutch stepped on it and scored five runs.
With the bases loaded and one out, Tyriq Kemp drew a walk to drive in the game-tying run. A triple by Chris Stuart cleared the bases to give the Dutch a three run lead over the Austrians. When Jelle Bing grounded towards the Austrian shortstop, the latter committed a fielding error that allowed Stuart to score the fifth run of the inning.
In the third inning, Dutch starting pitcher Kyshon Gitterson got in a bit of trouble as he gave up a single to Tobias Werner. Werner stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. But that was as far as he would come as Gitterson retired the next three hitters to get out of the inning without any problem.
The bottom of the third inning would be no different for the Netherlands as they scored five runs again. With runners in scoring position, a single by Raydley Legito and a triple by Tyriq Kemp drove in three runs. A double to right field by Chris Stuart would drive in two more runs for the Dutch to give them a commanding 10-1 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Dutch finished things off. With the bases loaded and no outs, Derek Paesch was hit with a pitch and thus all runners moved up a base.
A wild pitch allowed all runners to move up a base again before Tyriq Kemp singled home the third run of the inning with a single down the left field line. Derek Paesch scored on Emile Haswell singled up the middle. Chris Stuart took a hit by pitcher Filarowski to load the bases again.
The game ended prematurely in four innings as the Dutch scored two more runs.
Kishon Gitterson earned the win. In three innings he gave up one unearned run on two hits and two walks and struck out three.
Best hitter for the Dutch was Chris Stuart who went 3 for 3 with a double, a triple, five RBI and a run scored.
