Dutch beat Korea to reach final of Colt League World Series

In the double elimination format, the Dutch Colt League team met the Colt League team from Seoul, South Korea for the second time in this tournament. And for the second time,  the Dutch beat their opponent. With another great team effort, the Netherlands won 10-6.

For the first time this tournament, the Netherlands were trailing their opponent. After 2.5 scoreless innings, Korea scored the opening run in the bottom of the third.
Sem Robberse gave up a leadoff walk to Jeon Jin Woo. After Woo advanced to second on a fielder’s choice hit by Kim Tae Ho, two consecutive errors allowed Woo to score the opening run.

But after the Dutch batters were kept in check in the first four innings, the Netherlands would bounce back with a huge inning in the fifth. Back-to-back singles by Nolan Beugeling and Leandro Anasagasti, followed by an error committed by the Korean third baseman on Shuruengelo Mingelis “hit”, allowed Nolan Beugeling to tie the game and put runners on the corners. Mick Vos’ sac bunt put runners in scoring position. The Koreans then brought in a new pitcher and he started his outing with walking Jeandro Tromp and Denzel Bryson to load the bases and to allow the go-ahead run to score. Consecutive singles and a sac fly drove in three more runs for the Dutch before Nolan Beugeling singled to load the bases again. An error by the Korean center fielder, allowed the Dutch to score two more runs for a commanding 7-1 lead.

After the Dutch scored three more runs in the top of the seventh inning, on back-to-back singles, a triple and a balk, Korea started a rally that brought in five runs. But eventually, Ruendrick Piternella recorded the final out at first base for the win.

Even though Sem Robberse pitched 4.1 solid innings in which he gave up only one run on two hits, he did not earn the win. That honor went to Naut Kragt, who lasted 1.2 innings in which he fanned two. Nick Loos pitched the final inning but had to surrender five runs but none of them was earned.

On the defensive side, the Dutch did not so well as they committed five errors, but with the good hitting, the shabby defense did not hurt them.

Best hitter for the Netherlands was Thomas Kwakernaak, who went 1 for 1 in a pinch hit at bat with a run scored.

Hitting results for the Dutch:

Denzel Bryson: 1 for 3 with a RBI and a run scored
Darryl Collins:
1 for 2 with a RBI and a run scored
Tyler Boersma: 2 for 4 with a RBI and two runs scored
Ruendrick Piternella:
1 for 3 with 3 RBI and a run scored
Nolan Beugeling:
2 for 4 with a run scored
Leandro Anasagasti:
2 for 4 with a run scored

“Knock on wood” but it looks like something beautiful is brewing here. Thanks to this win, the Dutch advanced to the championship game to face the also unbeaten Upland team from California.
