Brownsville sends the Netherlands home

No automatic alt text available. In one of the Pony League World Series elimination games, the Netherlands took on Brownsville from Texas. Just like yesterday, the game didn’t go well for the Dutch. The pitching was hit hard and had to allow twelve runs on fourteen hits. Eventually, the Dutch fell to Brownsville 12-4.

After Texas took a 4-0 lead after the first two innings, Tyriq Kemp put the Dutch on the board with a towering two-run home run in the top of the third. But the Texans walked away in the bottom of the third. A fielding error and a walk put runners on the bases before Rafael Parra hit a towering home run to left field to give Brownsville a commanding 7-2 lead. If that wasn’t enough, a single to left field, drove in two more runs to make it 9-2.

The Texan pitching cruised through five innings. Jorge Lozano pitched three innings, gave up two runs on three hits, walked three and struck out three. Michael Ramos pitched three innings in which he gave up a run on three hits and struck out five.
Rafael Parra was the only one that struggled as he retired only one hitter and allowed a run in the top of the seventh inning. His successor Jose Banda retired the remaining two hitters to end the game.

In the top of the fifth inning, the Netherlands inched closer. Tyriq Kemp got on base as he hit towards third baseman Rafael Parra needed too much time to throw at first base. Nick Boxelaar followed with an infield hit to second base. Both runners were moved over on Emile Haswell’s 1-3 ground out. A balk allowed Tyriq Kemp to score the third run.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Texas used the holes in the defense of the Dutch and put runners on first and second before Rafael Capistran hit a towering home run to center field that just cleared the fence to extend the lead to 12-3.

In the final frame, the Dutch started a rally as the team loaded the bases with one out. Jesse Velders drew a seven-pitch walk to drive in the fourth run for the Netherlands. But there the offense stalled as Jose Banda retired the final two batters for the Brownsville win.

Gio de Graauw allowed eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits for the loss.

Best hitter for the Netherlands was Emile Haswell, who went 2 for 3.

Hitting results:

Raydley Legito: 1 for 4 with a run scored,
Tyriq Kemp: 1 for 4 with two RBI and two runs scored
Nick Boxelaar: 1 for 4 with a run scored
Jesse Velders: 1 for 3 with a RBI
