As you could read here a few days ago, the Lincoln SaltDogs have reached the playoffs of the independent American Association. In the first round, the team of several Dutchies faces the Winnipeg GoldEyes.
The American Association playoffs started last Wednesday. In the first game of round one, the Lincoln SaltDogs crushed the Winnipeg GoldEyes as they beat them 13-0. DH
Curt Smit from Curaçao had a big part in the win as he went 2 for 4 with three RBI. Another Dutchie, in this case from Aruba, Randolph Oduber also drove in a run as he went 1 for 4 with a double and a run scored.
In the second game, both Dutchies made their presence felt. Randolph Oduber went 2 for 5 and scored a run. Curt Smit even went 3 for 5 with a solo home run. A third Dutchie, catcher Dashenko Ricardo went 1 for 3 in this game, his first in the playoffs. Ricardo hit a RBI double. Despite their good performance at bat, the SaltDogs lost 5-4. After the SaltDogs scored a run in four consecutive innings, the fourth Dutchie on the SaltDogs roster, Shairon Martis, gave up four runs in the sixth inning after pitching five scoreless frames. Martis gave up two doubles, four walks (one intentional) and a sac fly so Winnipeg could tie the game at four.
The one run the GoldEyes scored in the eighth inning, was too much to overcome for Lincoln.
Tonight both teams will face each other again but this time in Winnipeg. The winner of this game will advance to the American Association championship series, where it will face the Wichita Wingnuts that beat the Gary Southshore RailCats 4-2 and 5-2.
