After having a bye in the first round after finishing second in the regular standings, the Doosan Bears have reached the championship series of the KBO in which they will face the Kia Tigers, who clinched a spot by finishing first in the regular standings.
After losing the first game in the second round 13-5 to the NC Dinos, the Bears won three in a row (17-7, 14-3, 14-5) to advance to the championship series.
The Doosan Bears finished second in the regular season with 84 wins, 57 losses and 3 ties. Their nemesis, the Kia Tigers finished on top of the standings with 87 wins, 56 wins and a tie.
Big contributor to the good season of the Kia Tigers was Curaçaoan Roger Bernadina. Bernadina ranked 16th in the standings with a batting average of .320.
Roger posted an OBP of .378, a slugging percentage of .540 and an OPS of .918.
He hit 61 extra base hits with 34 doubles, 6 triples and 27 homeruns. With a batting average with runners in scoring position of .331, Bernadina was a good clutch hitter. At his age of 33, Roger is still a pretty fast base runner as he stole 32 bases out of 39 attempts. He drove in 111 runs, laid down 3 sac bunts and hit 9 sac flies and did not commit an error while playing the outfield.
Roger shared the honor of hitting the most home runs of the Kia Tigers with team mate Na Ji-Wan, with whom he ranked ninth in the KBO home run standings. Bernadina ranked first in runs scored with 118.
The best of seven Korean championship series will start coming Wednesday, October 25.
