After a 10-5 loss vs the NPB East delegation, the WBSC took on the CPBL today. For five innings the WBSC kept the Taiwanese in check as they allowed three runs on six hits. Final score 5-3.
Pitcher Joshua Kimborowicz kept the Taiwanese limited to two hits and struck out five in six innings of work. The 25-year old right-hander played for the Ogden Raptors last season. Now a minor league free agent, he helped his own case today. A performance like this must wake up clubs to sign him.
For five innings both teams kept each other in check but in the top of the sixth inning, the WBSC opened the score when first baseman Matthew Chavez singled to drive in Anthony Rosselli, who led off the inning with a double, from second base.
In the seventh inning, the WBSC extended its lead when Anthony Rosselli connected for a three-run home run.
Ryan Newell, who replaced Kimborowicz in the seventh retired the side in that seventh frame. Newell, who missed the biggest part of the season due to an injury, recorded two wins for the Jupiter Hammerheads (Marlins organization) in the Florida State League last season.
Frank Dejiulio jr. replaced Newell in the eighth in which he promptly gave up a run to the CPBL. Dejiulio jr. was replaced in the bottom of the ninth after he gave up another run to the Taiwanese.
In the top of the ninth, the WBSC scored an insurance run.
Ryan Kussmaul finished the job after he replaced Dejiulio jr, despite giving up an unearned run.
Two WBSC players went 2 for 4: Anthony Rosselli with three RBI and a home run and Vincente Lupo with a run scored. The only Duthie that participated today, Phildrick Llewellyn went 0 for 4. Behind the plate, Phildrick did a nice job as he guided the pitching staff to the victory and made a couple of accurate and strong throws to kill the Taiwanese rally when they got on base.
It won’t come as a surprise that Joshua Kimborowicz earned the win.
Both teams collected six hits, but the WBSC was just a tad more effective with five runs against three.
