If you follow Korean baseball, you might have noticed that Roger Bernadina hasn’t been in the lineups of the Kia Tigers lately. The 33-year old Curaçao born outfielder has been placed on the disabled list by his club.
Since May 15, Roger did not appear on any Kia Tigers lineup card since he has been sidelined by a nagging upper leg injury. As a result, he can be found on the DL now.
So far, Roger’s season has not been as impressive as it was during the 2017 season. Perhaps he has been bothered by the injury for a longer period already. The Tigers as a team are having a mediocre season so far. The Kia Tigers are not the dominant team they were last year.
Until he was placed on the disabled list, Roger hit .290, which is 30 points lower than his 2017 batting average. So far he slugged six doubles, one triple and seven home runs and drove in 23 runs. Also with runners in scoring position he is hitting worse. Last year he had a tremendous .331 with RISP but so far he is hitting “only” .280.
After a brilliant season in 2017 in which he won the KBO pennant with the Kia Tigers, Roger made clear that he was interested in a return to the Bigs, but eventually, he decided to stay with the Tigers.
According to Roger himself, he will join the team again, coming Tuesday.
