Only five innings was what the Dutch needed to shove aside Great Britain. The Kingdom of the Netherlands showed no mercy as the team outscored their opponent 21-2 and outhit them 15-4.
Eight of the twenty-one runs the Dutch scored were unearned thanks to the five errors the British defense committed. After a slow start as the Dutch scored a run in the first and one in the second inning, the British still may have had some hope on a better result. But a monster inning in the third, blew away their hope as the Dutch scored nineteen (!) runs. Five singles (by Ruendrick Piternella, Tyler Boersma (2x), Nolan Beugeling, and Leandro Anasagasti) two doubles (by Darryl Collins and Denzel Bryson), two triples (Leandro Anasagasti and Ruendrick Piternella), ten walks (!) and two errors sealed the fate of team Great Britain. In that third inning, the Dutch batted around twice as twenty-one batters stepped into the batter’s box.
Sem Robberse started the game for the Dutch and lasted three innings in which he gave up one hit and a walk and struck out two. Scott Prins pitched one inning in relief as he gave up two runs (one earned) on three hits and a walk and fanned one. Jiorgeny Casimiri earned the win as he pitched a perfect fifth in which he struck out one.
Darryl Collins and Nolan Beugeling both went 2 for 2. Both doubled and both scored twice but Beugeling also drove in two runs.
The British walked eleven batters while their Dutch counterparts walked only two. The British struck out two, only two less than the Dutch pitching staff.
In the other games, there were no surprises. France beat Ukraine 15-0 in seven innings and Spain beat Irland 13-2 in seven innings. The fourth game of today, between Italy and Lithuania, will be played tonight at 20.00 hours (8.00 PM) CEST.
