The Washington Nationals, who were forced out Syracuse, will place their AAA team at the other side of the United States. The club signed a two-year deal with the Fresno Grizzlies. A surprising move by the Texas Rangers, who were expected to sign with the AAA San Antonio Missions.

After the New York Mets bought the Syracuse Chiefs, the Washington Nationals had to look for a new home for their AAA team. Today the club announced their new partnership with the Fresno Grizzlies.

“This is another thrilling new chapter for Fresno Grizzlies baseball- we can’t wait for the Nationals to get on the ground in Central California and see everything this community has to offer,” said Derek Franks, Fresno team president.  “Our new ownership group is continuing several upgrades to both the fan experience and baseball operations facets of Chukchansi Park that began during our previous PDC with Houston, including plans for a brand new playing surface in 2019.   I believe the Washington Nationals will find this a comfortable place to cultivate all of their young talent, and will see early on how committed the fans of “Growlifornia’ are to baseball in the Central Valley.”

The other day the Fresno Grizzlies announced they would have a new parent club as the Astros have pulled out of Fresno, as they are expected to fill the void the Texas Rangers left in Round Rock.

“The Washington Nationals are excited to be partnering with the Fresno Grizzlies of the Pacific Coast League,” said Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo. “Fresno is committed to player development and we hope this partnership will continue to yield success for both clubs on the field and off.”

Another AAA signing will be between the Texas Rangers and the Nashville Sounds, quite a surprising one as the Rangers were expected to move their AAA team to San Antonio. The signing between the Rangers and the Sounds will be announced on Thursday.

Assuming the Astros will head to Round Rock indeed, the Milwaukee Brewers will stay with their AAA partner that will move from Colorado Springs to San Antonio in 2019.
