After pointing out the transitions of the top four teams, this article will describe which players came and went to and from the teams that ended the regular hoofdklasse season in the bottom four.
Finishing in fifth place, missing the playoffs by a nose hair, DSS had to play to prevent relegation. The club managed to do this with flying colours.
But the club suffered some (big) losses in the transition period. Mike Groen, Tom Stuifbergen and Denzel Richardson all joined L&D Amsterdam Pirates. Kevin Nieveld joined Silicon Storks and Reggie Bomberg, Djewi De Lanoi and Omar Williams hung up their spikes.
To deal with these losses, the club raided the roster of Meerlease Pioniers as they acquired right-handed pitchers Ibrahin Redan and Alexander Valdez and IF/C Brian Raap. Diamond Silberie and Moreno Vork came from HCAW and LHP Lars Werkman came from neighbouring RCH-Pinguïns. Also Silicon Storks lost two players to the club from Haarlem as 1B/DH Aldi Guzman and OF Runai Coran will call the Pim Mulier Sportpark their home in 2019.
Cityside Apartments Quick Amersfoort
Cityside Apartments Quick Amersfoort added a shipload of overgangsklasse pitchers. Mitchell Berghmans (LHP) and Jan-Willem Geerts (RHP) will come from the farm team of L&D Amsterdam Pirates. Sem Robberse (RHP) and Dakota van der Heyde (1B/IF) will come from the farm team of HCAW and Aaron van Zwieten (RHP/IF) will come from UVV. Quick Amersfoort managed to acquire two hoofdklasse pitchers: Taylor Clemensia of Curaçao Neptunus and Pastor Chavez Martinez from De Glaskoning Twins.
Of course, the club lost some players as well.
Three players went to overgangsklasse club UVV from Utecht: Aaron Isenia (LHP), Jurjen van Zijl (RHP) and Kai Berkel (2B). Alberto Ostos shifted to the men’s softball team of the club. Rick Kuipers (OF) moved to Robur ’58 from Apeldoorn and shortstop Jelle Blaauw moved to HCAW to play in their third team. Ryan Dale (Australia) and Luis Figuera Roman (Venezuela) returned home.
Jos de Jong and Wesley Bernardus decided to hang up their spikes.
Pioniers lost quite some players in the transition period as it lost five players next to the players that decided to stop during the regular season. RHP Alexander Valdez, C/3B Leandro Anasagasti, C/IF Brian Raap and OF/1B Ibrahin Redan moved to Haarlem to join DSS. Oliver van der Wijst Severino (3B) joined HCAW.
What got Pioniers in return? Four players from the overgangsklasse and a player from Aruba.
RHP Lars Broersen and C Jason Gijsbertha came from neighbouring RCH-Pinguïns, RHP Nathan Diaby came from the farm team of L&D Amsterdam Pirates and SS Nolan Beugeling comes from Kinheim. The Aruban player that will reinforce their ranks is 1B/DH Jair Bogaerts.
The club from the Hague had to deal with a lot of losses as well. RHP Aaron de Groot moved to Tridents, the farm team of Curaçao Neptunus, RHP Ricky Voorn and Quinlan de Windt stepped down to Storks 2, 1B/DH Kenny George, 3B Gino Gil, and 2B/OF Tyron de Windt called it a career.
1B/OF Aldi GUZMAN moved to DSS, OF Runai Coran moved to DSS and the fate of Tijani Dunlop is unknown.
The players the club acquired are LHP David van Heijningen (from St. Maarten/St. Martin), C Milo Botman from overgangsklasse club Eurostars. 1B/LHP Stephon Mohamed comes from the now-defunct baseball academy Tsunami. IF Kevin Nieveld left DSS to join Storks and OF Roy Winkel comes from overgangsklasse club Orioles. Storks also added two players that didn’t play last season: OF Philip Ortez and utility player Irvin Redan.
