In their third game of the 2019 European Championship, the Kingdom of the Netherlands hosted Sweden. After the surprising loss vs the Czech Republic, the Dutch came back and beat the Scandinavians 9-0.

Manager Evert-Jan ‘t Hoen gave Donny Breek the nod. The youngster had a solid debut for team Kingdom of the Netherlands. Debuting catcher Hendrik Clementina guided Breek through six innings. Breek allowed only three runners on base, two thanks to a single and one due to a walk. Breek struck out ten.

In the second inning, Sharlon Schoop led off with a double and was able to score thanks to the single to center field by Hendrik Clementina. It took the Dutch a while before they extended their lead.

In the fifth, the Dutch proved that with two outs, anything can happen when Roger Bernadina and Curt Smith hit back-to-back solo home runs and Sharlon Schoop hit a two-run shot after Ademar Rifaela got on base on a single to right field.

The Dutch had another big inning in the eighth. Singles by Calten Daal, Curt Smith, Sharlon Schoop, Yurendell de Caster and a double by Roger Bernadina drove in four more runs to reach the final score.

Diegomar Markwell, Shairon Martis and Kevin Kelly all pitched a perfect inning as Markwell and Martis struck out two and Kelly fanned one.

Breek earned the win. Roger Bernadina was the best hitter with three hits out of four at-bats with a home run, two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored.

Tomorrow, the Netherlands will face hosting nation Germany in the nightcap of the fourth day.
