Ray-Patrick Didder signs with Angels

No, Ray-Patrick Didder is not ascending to higher atmospheres. He was signed to a minor league contract by the Los Angeles Angels.

In seven seasons in affiliated ball, Didder’s numbers never really panned out. One exception: his 2018 stint with the Mississippi Braves, the Atlanta Braves’ AA franchise. In 46 games, Ray-Patrick batted .275 but in most other seasons his batting average hovered between .203 and .274. In 2018, Ray-Patrick was part of the Peoria Javelinas of the Arizona Fall League.

His defense however, was pretty decent. Nevertheless, he was not offered a new contract after the 2019 season and bided his time in Italy, where he joined Fortitudo Bologna. He helped Bologna to win the championship with his bat as Ray-Patrick batted .413. Despite his experience at shorststop, his defensive numbers were somewhat disappointing, a .929 fielding percentage.

It remains to be seen where the Angels will place Ray-Patrick. Since he has played at AA for a considerable number of games, he may likely start the 2021 season in Pearl, MS with the M-Braves.
